Wild camping, the plot thickens.

Plotting the track of the coastal path arount the isle of wight was the easy bit. Simply a case of a few conversions to get the file into a kml from gpx then open it in Google Earth. Working out where to stop will be harder than I thought.

The theory is simple, choose a start point work out roughly how far you will walk, (on average), then at the end point/s plot some ideal hiding spots. Either in woodland or a suitable grassy knoll. This, as anyone who knows the island, will be a bit trickier than we first expected.

Both Charli and I have been at the lapping all afternoon measuring from different start/stop/camp/campsites to try to find a way to be walking past the parts with no oppertunities to camp.

More on this as it developes hopefully we will solve this soon.

Isle of Wight: Coastal path prep.

Just put all the tracks onto viewranger on my android nexus one.

Should be really handy when check other footpaths or different routes.

Getting ready for the isle of wight coastal path.

Been an absolute age since I used this blog. Planning on using it as a sort of online photo album. the next adventure will be The wisely of Wight coastal path. sadly missed out on blogging the southdowns way as there is no Blogger.com app for symbian. now I'm running android iv'e got a nice client to use. To start the prep: Just set up my Garmin gps60 with a track of the IOW coastal path. Also have waypoints for all towns on the route.

We'll also be using the same google earth techniques to spot suitable places to wild came. Previously I've used google earth to spot flat wooded areas suitable for making camp. This worked quite well when charli and I walked the southdowns way earlier this year.
